The Center research activities and responsibilities are led by Dr. Reifsnider who has recruited faculty in the area of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The SOFC laboratory and research program in the SOFC are located in the new Horizon I building with a research program that provides elements of national and international leadership in that field.
Dr. Ken Reifsnider is an internationally esteemed expert in high temperature energy systems and composite materials. Formerly the director of the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center, Reifsnider is passionate about energy research and education. He is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering.
Meet our director.
The Center has two Assistant Professors in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. They include Frank Chen, Associate Professor, and Chris Xue, Assistant Professor. There are three additional tenure track faculty: Kevin Huang, Associate Professor; Xia Dong Zhou, Associate Professor; and Xinyu Huang, Assistant Professor. In addition there are two non-tenure track research professors: Prasun Majumdar, Research Assistant Professor and Yanhai Du, Research Professor.
Meet our faculty.
The Center has three affiliated faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. They are Jamil Khan, Xiaodong "Chris" Li, and Chen Li.
Meet our affiliated faculty.
Post Doctoral and Graduate Team Members
A primary objective for the SOFC is to establish a state-of-the-art research laboratory, and an associated group of faculty, students, and professionals with demonstrated excellence in solid oxide fuel cell science and technology. Our faculty contribute to the teaching mission of the University by providing research projects for graduate and undergraduate students in engineering, business, and chemistry and provide multidisciplinary education and training for personnel for new businesses for the fuel cell economy.
